Background

BHF was founded in 2022 under the stewardship of Deo Bwentuge, a vibrant and self motivated man who grew up with his grandfather in the remote community of Kabonera in rural Masaka.
He had earlier lost both his parents to HIV at an infant age of only five years. He went through alot of hardships to acquire formal education with little support from his grandparents and doing odd jobs in his village to generate income to support his education.
Currently, he is a qualified educationist who felt the urge to give back to his community through this initiative. While growing up with his only sister, Lilian, she was attacked by a strange disease that resulted in her body developing body sores, having a cough and general body illness and weakness. The grandparents who took care of the two were...

advised by the locals in the community to visit fortune tellers and witch doctors (traditional doctors/healers) thinking the young girl had been possessed by evil spirits, others further advised the family to visit the church for the men of God to pray for the young girl. All this was in vain!!
It was after several months that they took Lilian to the nearby health center IV and she was indeed tested HIV positive. However, it was too late adding to the limited availability of antiretroviral (ARVS) drugs by then, Lilian succembed to the disease.
Deo came to realise that there was a lot of misinformation and ignorance about the disease and this all necessitated for the formation of a movement aimed at closing the information gaps about HIV/AIDS and also point out the different issues affecting the general health and well being of adolescents and youth incuding but not limited to their sexual reproductive health needs and best practises to help them live impactful lives upto their full potential, full of opportunities.
